NASW-Michigan Annual Awards
Nominations are now being accepted for the NASW-Michigan Annual Awards. We are seeking nominations for the five following categories:
- Social Worker of the Year
- Public Citizen of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Stabenow Political Leadership Award
- Lisa Putman Award for Excellence in Child Welfare

The nomination deadline is February 20, 2012. Awards will be presented during the NASW-Michigan Annual Conference on April 19-20, 2012 at the Radisson in Kalamazoo.
December 2011 Newsletter Now Available
Starting with the September 2011 issue, the NASW-Michigan monthly newsletter changed from Connections to The Bridge. With a brand new design, layout, and look - The Bridge will help the Chapter educate, inform, and engage with all members in a whole new way.

Important Update Re: Senate Bill 804
NASW-Michigan has received the following information from our lobbyist:
"The bill as introduced inadvertently impacts social workers and the bill had been intended solely to impact limited license psychologists. A new substitute is being drafted [by the MPA] and will be shared once we have a copy."
This is great news! NASW-Michigan will be sure to alert members of any changes/updates as they are available.

Legislative & Social Policy Committee
The NASW-Michigan Legislative & Social Policy (LSP) Committee recommends Board positions on social and legislative action and develops the Chapter’s legislative advocacy agenda. The Committee educates and engages the membership in the legislative process, administrative actions, and ballot initiatives that affect social workers and their client populations.

Health Management Systems of America (HMSA)
Health Management Systems of America (HMSA), has been providing quality external EAP services for over thirty years, working with both employers and organized bargaining units. These programs include short-term counseling and referral services.
HMSA is looking to expand their provider network throughout the State of Michigan to refer members for service. If you are interested in becoming an HMSA provider, please log-on to www.hmsanet.com, click on Providers and complete the forms to become a provider.
